JACKSON, Amador County — The main Amador County Library in Jackson maintains a special mining collection and historical newspaper holdings that can help residents research Gold Rush communities.
The county’s library information page identifies mining materials and newspapers dating to the mid-1800s. These are potential sources for researching early industry, families, land ownership and changing community life in the Mother Lode.
Where to begin
The main branch is located at 530 Sutter Street, Jackson, with regular hours Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.. The library lists 209-223-6400 and library@amadorcounty.gov.
Researchers should contact staff about specific collections, whether an item is kept on-site, reproduction rules and handling requirements. The existence of an archival collection does not guarantee that a particular document survives or is immediately accessible.
More than local history
The branch participates in the county’s library-card network, supporting borrowing, digital materials and other services. The county also advertises a California State Parks vehicle day-use pass program with limited availability at participating libraries.
Special closures and appointment arrangements should be confirmed before a long visit.
